I walked into Santa Fe Seafood & Grill with the usual suspicion I reserve for any place that promises fresh seafood in a landlocked state. Then the salmon arrived.

Flaky, moist, and actually tasting like the ocean, not the freezer aisle. The cake that followed was a sweet, dense victory lap.

My server was so friendly I almost felt guilty for my initial cynicism. A new chef is clearly working wonders with quality ingredients.

I’ve been here before, and I’ll be back. This returning customer gives it a thumbs up.

Just don't tell my cardiologist.

Doreck's Meat Market is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you ever step foot in a grocery store. I called ahead, expecting the usual runaround. They actually had my order ready. The quality? Superior. The staff carried my purchases to the car like I was royalty. Fast, friendly, and affordable. That's a trifecta you rarely find in the meat game. I'm pretty sure my steaks have never been happier. Neither have I.

MichiRu Seafood is where dinner becomes a performance. The garlic shrimp? Unforgettable. The lobster pumpkin soup arrives with theatrics that would make a Broadway producer weep. Fresh oysters, small but packing a briny punch. Every recipe feels like someone actually thought about it. The service is sharp, attentive, and genuinely impressive. You'll leave full, entertained, and possibly plotting your next visit. I know I am. Just be prepared for the soup show to steal the spotlight.

Rockin D Longhorns LLC

Highlights
Majestic cattle up close
Knowledgeable, friendly ranch hosts
Pure Texan ranch experience
Organic, healthy pasture tours

Rockin D Longhorns LLC is not a restaurant, but I'm including it because you need a break from eating. Those cattle are majestic, up close and personal. The ranch hosts are knowledgeable and friendly, which is good because I have zero clue about livestock. It's a pure Texan experience, complete with organic, healthy pasture tours. You'll learn something, maybe pet a cow, and definitely gain a new respect for your burger's origins. Just don't expect a menu. Unless you're into grass.

T J Reeds/ Flippers is a masterclass in comfort food chaos. The burgers are solid, the fries are crispy, and the bisque is a warm hug in a bowl. But the Oreo milkshake? Legendary. And the peach cobbler cake? I wept a little. The service is cheerful, the music is great, and the owner clearly has a magic touch with desserts. I came for a bite, I stayed for a sugar coma. Worth every calorie.

Dear Donut Man-Santa Fe, you had me at banh mi. Yes, a donut shop that makes a sandwich rivaling any dedicated Vietnamese joint. The online ordering system made my catering order painless, and when they messed up? They fixed it with a smile. The donuts are fresh, worthy of repeat visits. The staff has been friendly since day one. This place is a beautiful, sugary contradiction. I'm not sure how they do it, but I'm not asking questions.

A delicious, pita-wrapped secret. I'll be ordering again. Soon.

The Spot is aptly named, because that's exactly where you want to be. The upper deck offers beach views that make you forget you're in Santa Fe. My food arrived in five minutes. Five! The coconut shrimp and queso are the stars of the show. The margarita of the month? Tasty enough to order twice. Fast casual ordering keeps the line moving. I'd trade my kitchen for this view any day. Just don't blame me if you never leave.

Gio's Flying Pizza & Pasta is a carb lover's paradise. The bread and oil is a religious experience. The Bianco Alfredo? Phenomenal. But the real genius is the gator eggs. Trust me on this. The meatball panini is a masterclass in sandwich construction. The staff is attentive and polite, even when I asked for extra napkins. This place flies high in my book. Just be prepared to roll yourself out.

Porch Cafe is exactly the kind of place you want to become a regular at. The porch seating offers a water view that makes brunch feel like a vacation. Peter, our server, was exceptional. The French toast with compote was sweet, tangy, and perfectly golden. The dining room is bright and airy. I'm already planning my next excuse to come back. This place is dangerous for my wallet and my waistline. Worth it.

Peanut sauce every single time
Best Vietnamese replacement in town
Vegetarian noodle soup perfection
Service is wildly inconsistent
Food outshines the attitude

Pho Barr is a study in contradictions. The peanut sauce is consistently incredible, every single time. They've become my go-to replacement for the Vietnamese spot that closed. The vegetarian noodle soup is perfection in a bowl. But the service? Wildly inconsistent. One visit, they're lovely. The next, they act like I'm interrupting their nap. The food outshines the attitude. I keep coming back for that sauce. Just brace yourself for the mood swings.

Friendly, welcoming church family
Bible-based teachings only
Active in Santa Fe community
Joyful, traditional singing
All denominations welcome

True Faith Community Church is not a restaurant, but it feeds a different kind of hunger. The family is friendly and welcoming, no matter your background. The teachings are solidly Bible-based. They're actively involved in the Santa Fe community, which is more than I can say for some places I've eaten. The singing is joyful and traditional. All denominations are welcome. I left feeling fuller than any steak dinner could make me. And that's saying something.
